Mahatma Gandhi said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Brothers, Adam and Josh Buchwald, are examples of that quote in action. I have the honor to speak with these two amazing brothers about “Promise to Humanity.”

In the spring when so much of the world was pausing due to the coronavirus Adam and Josh were like many of us sitting at home. They felt the need to do something. They wanted to make a difference and take action, because doing nothing was not how these two caring humans work. These two brothers survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018. They know how precious life is and how quickly it can be taken. Adam and Josh were listening to the experts in regards to keeping people safe and protected during COVID19. As they were listening and talking, ideas began to pour out of each of them. There was a way to help, to make a difference, to save lives. It is like one ginormous think tank of positivity and ideas flowing when Adam and Josh start to figure out how to solve a problem. So solve away they did. Promise to Humanity is the result.

Working together Adam and Josh developed the web page and all other social media platforms. They chose the name Promise to Humanity purposefully as the name reflects how every person should choose to take actions such as wearing a face mask, wash their hands, and practice social distancing to stop the transmission of the coronavirus. To look out for each other, especially individuals with health concerns and the health and wellbeing of our senior citizens. For Adam and Josh whose younger sister has type 1 diabetes and their grandparents are in a high risk category they live everyday taking protective actions for their loved ones. Shouldn’t the rest of us be doing the same?

“Work hard, be kind, and amazing things will happen.” Conan O’Brien

Now just because there was a web page with the Promise To Humanity pledge did not mean Josh and Adam stopped working. Nope. They kicked everything into another gear. Emailing, emailing, and emailing a plethora of people, including individuals who have a huge platform to do good. Matthew McConaughey is partnering with Adam and Josh to help get Promise To Humanity out to students in college. After talking with Adam and Josh, Matthew stated “I support Josh and Adam Buchwald’s Promise to Humanity pledge because the safer we are today, the more we can party tomorrow.”

The World Health Organization reached out to Adam and Josh to be part of a youth alliance initiative to work with youth all around the globe where they participate in weekly meetings to problem solve and take action.

Adam and Josh Buchwald have put a tremendous amount of work into this global movement resulting in thousands of pledges. These outstanding young men have also been featured with worldwide coverage from CNN, NowThis, Dr. Oz and Sharecare, NBC News and a variety of other sources. This movement requires a significant amount of effort and work behind the scenes. The amount of pledges and being featured worldwide news coverage reflects the dedication and work Adam and Josh are putting into this movement.

These two young men are passionate in their care for all humans. They run Promise To Humanity with thoughtfulness and structure. There is a daily schedule of who to email, call, and contact. They keep up with the webpage and all social media platforms. Josh said “we are passionate and care about this so we will not be stopping anytime soon.” The Buchwald family from their parents to younger sister are all go-getters who pitch in to help when the need arises, along with having an entrepreneurial spirit of running their own businesses. The foundation of Adam and Josh’s family is to do what we can to help others is reflected in the manner in which they operate Promise To Humanity.

We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.” Nelson Mandela

I asked Adam and Josh if they were surprised at the amount of support and individuals signing up to take the pledge and they were not. Adam and Josh put in many hours of work to get the word out so that more people will take the pledge. They do manage to take some time for self-care by going for walks, bike riding, playing board games with some video game time. Even though Adam is returning soon to the University of Florida as a sophomore and Josh is finishing his senior year at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School the brothers have figured out how to keep and grow this global movement.

Adam and Josh are combining love and work, a powerful combo, to reach out and connect with people all over the world in this global movement. They have enjoyed the positive connections with kind people in the spreading of Promise To Humanity information. Senior citizens and the care of our elders is a priority, so they are going to partner with The Horizon Club, Five Star Senior Living where seniors will sign the pledge and post pictures. Josh believes we need to “focus on human to human and the care of the planet so we can care for others.” Adam believes that “wearing a mask is so simple to do to save lives, and you should be living your life to the fullest.”

Let’s all agree to “make a promise that we will follow safety measures in order to save lives.” It is that simple and easy. The brotherhood of Adam and Josh Buchwald have brought to light in a positive way something each of us can do to show our care for others. An action we can take that can save lives. Thank you Adam and Josh for your positive energy and efforts to keep us all safe during a very difficult time.  You make this world a better place by being in it!
