Behind my house is a wooded area that leads to some farmer’s fields. Here and there amongst the many animals that show up…like one year there were two weasels that scampered through the yard! Recently the sounds of two owls have captivated my attention.  At first I thought I was hearing things. When I realized what I was hearing (I could not see them) I stopped everything and listened, becoming still. My mind only focused on the lovely owl sounds shooing all it’s other chatter away. It was pure joy and completely delightful. As you go through your life day to day how often do you take notice of what delights you? You know those magical moments where you are like this is so cool? It does not have to be a melody of owls as there are many other experiences in life that are delightful.

“Life does not come with instructions on how to live, but it does come with sunsets, smiles and laughter, so enjoy your day.” Debbie Shapiro

I feel too often, especially in adulting we miss those magical moments of delight. We are too busy, have more important things to do, we don’t have enough time. Yet these simple moments of delight can help fill our spirits and souls in many magnificent ways. They can increase our energy, productivity, fun, give us gratitude and help our health.

An article in DiveThru.com says:

“Deeee-lightful. Not a word we use often, huh? It’s kinda fancy for everyday use. As in, it sounds like a response you’d get from an 83-year-old British grandmother after asking how her cup of tea is. Why it’s delightful, my dear! You get the idea.

But what does it mean to FEEL delightful, exactly? Dictionary.com defines delightful as “adj. giving great pleasure or delight; highly pleasing.” Okay, taking pleasure in something. That makes sense. We’ve all (hopefully) felt this emotion before!

There are sooo many things in life that can make us feel delightful, even the little things like getting a massage after a stressful week and feeling all of those knots and aches melt away. Ordering a pizza ‘cause you just don’t feel like cooking after the day you’ve had. Receiving a super sweet card on your birthday. Cracking a joke that everyone laughs at (‘cause you’re a comedic genius). Or, petting an adorbs lil’ puppy. See what we mean?! There’s delight to be found around every corner!”

When you are in a delight state your brain responds by releasing all sorts of positive and good for you hormones. Your body joins in the delight by decreasing blood pressure, reducing the cortisol levels and more.

“Still round the corner there may wait, a new road or a secret gate.” J.R.R. Tolkien

Most amazing human go get some delight on. Be silly, do some art, garden, tell a joke “How do bees get to school? On the schoolbuzz” as 4yo Theodore shared with me. Do something that delights you. Stop and take in the magnificence of nature as it is breathtaking. Laugh. Enjoy the food you are eating. Listen with all of what what someone is saying to you. Be in your moments with all of you. Your brain and your body will thank you. You will be happier and healthier. Take care of you and all of your delightfulness. Who you are matters in this world.

May your delight be with you💜
