Vista M. Kelly said “Snowflakes are one of nature’s most fragile things, but just look what they can do when the stick together.” I have never thought of snowflakes as being fragile. Snowflakes have always blown me away. How could each snowflake, distinctive and unique in features, slowly glide or with impressive intensity head towards the ground, piling up on one another to create drifts of snow, be made into snow people, snowballs, create trails in which to ski, snowshoe, or make an amazing snow angel. You get a plethora of snow flakes and they can shut down schools, roads, airports, making everything stop.
“Even the strongest blizzard starts with a single snowflake.” Sara Raasch
Humans have snowflake similarities. We are similar, yet unique and distinctive from each other. Human DNA is 99.9% the same from person to person according to the NIH. That is a whole lot of commonality. Yet that .1% provides some mighty variation. We also have the force, like a blizzard, when working towards a common goal to create change in all sorts of powerful ways.

Last week when talking with one of my client’s one of the things we discussed was her new puppy. She shared how she loves him up all the time. She is also struggling with not feeling filled up as a person. Her internal self is deficient. I used an analogy of loving herself up just like her puppy. With ongoing kindness and compassion towards herself. Daily. A lot of it, along with upping her kindness to others. How this will help her to be happier and better about herself. An article in Meduim.com states:
“Kindness improves morale, self-esteem, happiness and well-being. Research shows if you do six acts of kindness in one day the positive effects of those acts will last for six weeks.
In other words, being kind makes you happy!
It’s a win for you, a win for others and a win for the world in general.”
What if, like the intensity of a blizzard we practiced daily kindness to self, to others and created a human kindness blizzard? We use our distinctive ways to create ripples of kindness all around us. Imagine if all of us completed six acts of kindness daily. We could say hello to each other at the grocery store, brush off other people’s snowy cars, made a baked treat, buy someone a cup of coffee or hot cocoa, show kindness to ourselves and so much more. Imagine how each of us could create a kindness blizzard. We could change ourselves and each other. There would be more happiness in the world because of our kindness.
Fred Rogers had it right when he said “Imagine what our real neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one nice word to another person.”
Most incredible person you have the power, and the force, to create your kindness blizzard. Begin with your snowflake of kindness. Be kind to you. Be kind to others. Just think when your kindness blizzard collides with another person’s kindness blizzard it will be like the Fujiwhara effect, a phenomenon when two smaller storms merge into one giant one. There will awesome giant kindness blizzard’s touching everyone and everything. You can do this. I can do this. We can do this together.
May your kindness blizzard be with you💜
