An unknown person said, “We don’t know them all, but we owe them all” about our hero Veterans. Save A Suit, a non-profit founded in 2010, has “Suited Up”over 5000 Veterans and transitioning service members returning home to the USA with free suits to help these Veterans as they enter the workforce. I had the honor, and joy, to interview Alex Carrera, President of this special organization.
“The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Jeff Miller
Save A Suit receives clothing that individuals and businesses donate. All suits are carefully inspected as the service members will only receive the “best of the best.” Alex shared that some businesses have sponsored “Suit Drive” clothing donation events where new and gently used suits, blazers, dress shirts, dress pants, tops, shoes, and other business attire for men and women can be donated. There are local drop-off centers in Connecticut, the home base of Save A Suit. Their ebay store offers the opportunity to “shop for a cause” where pre-owned luxury items can be purchased at bargains with the money going to helping Veterans. As Save A Suit works to improve suit drives and in-person events, they also hope to expand and become a national organization. The long waiting list of Veterans and service members transitioning home to the USA requesting free professional clothing from Save A Suit is evidence of the need to provide more professional clothing to more people.
“As we express our gratitude, we must forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” John F. Kennedy Jr.
Save A Suit gives our “returning Veterans a fair chance of pursuing their career goals after so heroically serving our country.” The in-person events around the Save A Suit home base of Connecticut offer Veterans and transitioning service members the opportunity to come and choose an entire suit along with accessories with a personal assistant guiding them through the experience. The Veterans and transitioning service members are pampered during this experience. Save A Suit will send individuals living out of the area a free suit. The only documentation required is proof that the person served and their clothing size. Save A Suit wants service members to know that someone cares about them and that their service and sacrifice to the United States of America are not forgotten.
“With respect, honor, and gratitude. Thank you Veterans.” Unknown
