This morning as I was walking in the snow with one of our dogs, the power of this peaceful moment washed over me. The world was quiet and simple. The only sounds were chirpy birds, my boots, and an occasional car driving by. In a world filled with wonder along with challenges and hardship there was peace. During this simple moment I realized during the majority of my life it is the simple things and pleasures that have brought so much joy and happiness.

It’s the most simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.” Paulo Coelho

An article in the dailymail.uk titled “Smiles better: Simple things in life make us happiest, research shows” states: “The simple things in life – such as a smile or walk -make us the happiest, a survey has revealed. More that a quarter of us say that just having someone to be nice to puts us in a good mood and that most of the things that made people happy cost nothing.”

Reminds me of the lyrics from Rodgers and Hammerstein “My Favorite Things”

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

As I continued to reflect upon my favorite things they were truly simple, magical moments. Hanging out with my family and friends, the cheery hello or smile from a stranger, being out and watching others interact having so much fun with each other. Recently I observed a couple who had a lot of years on earth. It was evident he had a plethora of health issues. His partner and he walked ever so slowly to their car. She gently helped him get in, making sure he was safe and secure, before she got in to drive him away. I had witnessed love in action. It was beautiful.

Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” Winnie the Pooh

As my list continued I thought of conversations with strangers, my incredible clients who shared the power of their stories with me, the kisses from our dogs and the powerful purr of our cat. On a chilly day give me a delicious hot cocoa, or a tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich (while some say toasted our house is grilled) and there is joy. My belly is happy. Witnessing kindness or reading about the kindness of others makes my heart smile. Nature blows me away! Feeling the warm sun on my face or a soft snowflake on my cheek brings happy to my soul. There were many things. These simple moments wielded a powerful force of happy, contentment, and joy.

Most special person take a moment. Pause, breathe, absorb. Your happy, your joy is often found in simplicity. When you are experiencing simple moments give them all of you. Sink your feet into these joyous occasions and let the glow of the magical moment wash all over you. You are deserving of so much joy and so much happy. Thank you for being you and bringing your awesome to the world.

May your simple things be with you💜
